8th Fall Festival
2006
The World Awaits!
As the leaves turn colour and autumn’s crispness fills the air, set out on a
whirlwind tour through musical space and time with the 8th Fall Festival!
For this annual event, the organ exults in its versatility and shares its splendours
with one and all.
Artists of many horizons come together for the memorable Evening Concerts. Among this
year’s rhythms and passions:
- the charm of Cuba and its intriguing contrasts, from the sacred music of the
Disciples de Massenet, under conductor Lucie
Roy, to the hot, sensual sounds of the Montréal Jazz Big Band.
- the spirit of Argentine tango, with dance, organ and bandoneon (Denis Plante and the Racines Quartet)
- an out-of-this-world matchup between the organ and hip-hop culture in a unique
improv evening
- the effervescence of the Italian Baroque (Claudio Astronio, Les Sonneurs)
- the incomparable English tradition (John Scott, Choir of The
Church of St. Andrew and St. Paul under conductor Julian Wachner)
- the intensity of the Viennese avant-garde at the turn of the twentieth century
(Benjamin Waterhouse, Kimy McLaren,
Rolf Bertsch)
- the Germanic symphonic repertoire (Orchestre Métropolitain du Grand
Montréal conducted by Yannick Nézet-Séguin).
And that’s not all! Other events at the 8th Fall Festival:
- 4 Happy-hour Concerts, in which the organ meets the saxophone, clarinet, strings,
and horn ensemble
- 4 Noon-hour Concerts, performed by women of note: Édith
Beaulieu, Lucie Beauchemin, Mélanie Barney, and Isabelle Demers
- last but not least, the annual Organ Open Houses, a chance to learn more about this
magnificent instrument.
Set your sails for some wonderful encounters! We look forward to seeing you.
